Twisted Luxuries
A handmade accessories micro-business launched from scratch during recovery.
Problem
Shortly before beginning university, I sustained a fracture that required an extended period of bed rest. While recovering, I wanted to remain productive and financially independent rather than treating recovery as lost time. I also wanted to explore whether a personal creative skill could be converted into something with tangible value.
Actions Taken
I taught myself advanced stitching and handmade accessory creation during recovery and launched a small initiative called Twisted Luxuries. I designed and produced handmade items, developed a simple sales process, and began selling products within my college community after joining university.
Beyond generating income, I used the initiative to support fundraising efforts and community causes by directing portions of proceeds toward social-impact activities and charitable initiatives. I managed production, pricing, customer interactions, inventory planning, and promotion independently while balancing academic responsibilities.
